Aruppukottai is one of the cities situated in the south-eastern part of the Madurai. The major profession of the people in Aruppukottai is Rice mills and Handlooms. A famous temple in Aruppukottai is Sri Amutha Lingeswarar Temple. There are number of festivals celebrated in this temple like Vijaya Dhasami, in the month of Chithirai -Chithra Pournami, Natarajar Abhishegam, Kandar Shasti, Ippasi- Kandar Shasti, and AvaniVinayagar Saturthi. Education is also good in Aruppukottai. There are many good institutions. There are also a number of higher secondary schools and colleges in Aruppukottai. One Engineering College, 2 Arts and science and Arts College. Aruppukottai is also famous for the limestone and cotton industries. People here are very hard working that they always work. Most of them are labours in the Rice mills and Cotton mills. Agriculture plays an important role in the profession of the people. It is well connected to major part of the city by railways and roadways. Here the roadways are very much narrow and mostly dusty.
